AJima hayon designer

An artist with a bold yet unorthodox imagination. He designs with people in mind. He likes to give others what they need. He likes to evoke emotions and put a smile on people's faces. At the same time, he always thinks about comfort and practicality... As you can easily guess, he is of course referring to the Spanish designer Jaime Hayon.

"It is important to remember that my design is made for people - to be used by people. I believe that design should evoke emotion. Design should make the recipient feel good."

History of artistic life - biography of Jaime Hayon

Jaime Hayon came into contact with street art as a teenager. However, his career begins by studying industrial design, chosen entirely by chance. After spending years in Paris and Madrid, he heads to Italy where he joins Fabrica, an academy of design and communication. There, he successfully works closely with the legendary image-maker and agitator Oliviero Toscani.

After a few years, his career gains momentum. In 2000, he set up his own studio and, from 2003, he devoted himself entirely to his personal projects. Shortly after moving to Barcelona, the Mediterranean exhibition Digital Baroque and a line of bathrooms designed for ArtQuitect ensure his leading place among the world's most respected designers.

After that, things only got better... The Showtime collection, produced by BD de Barcelona, appeared, then he began collaborating with major companies, including: Lladró, Metalarte, Camper, Swarovsky, Bosa Ceramiche and an Italian design publishing house with dozens of artists and designers, including Elena Salmistraro.

Jaime Hayón has exhibited his designer work in renowned international galleries such as the Pompidou Centre, London's Design Museum and the Groninger Museum. Additionally, during the first edition of the Madrid Design Festival, he was one of the most anticipated artists, right next to Martí Guixé. During the exhibition, it was possible to see his works such as the Baccarat Zoo glass figures and Piña chairs, as well as other more innovative works, such as the Réaction Poétique table collection. Some of his sketches are also included. By his own admission, he has more than 200 potential projects. Who knows, maybe another one will see the light of day soon....

After many changes of location, via Barcelona, Madrid, London, he has finally found a place where he feels fantastic. Currently, the designer's base of operations, Hayonstudio, is located in Valencia. It is a city that the designer values mainly for the authenticity of its streets, its proximity to Madrid and its freedom. It is here in the Central Market that he looks for inspiration on days when he lacks inspiration. Unrecognised by people, he can take in the surrounding bustle of the city....

"When I'm not inspired, I go to the Central Market, which is still a real market and not (...) for tourism".

Creativity - design in every detail

The artist's works are held in high regard all over the world. The comfort they provide and the feelings they cause make people want to buy Jaime Hayon's designs again and again. So it is not without reason that Time Magazine named him one of the 100 most important creators of our time, and Wallpaper magazine awarded him the title of "Breakthrough Creator ".

By avoiding squares as a geometric form, the artist's work is easily recognisable. He definitely prefers softer shapes, devoid of sharp angles. All his works share the same genetic heritage: energetic colours, as well as noble and natural materials. The designer is very attentive to details, taking care of every single detail. Jaime Hayon also designs interiors for hotels, restaurants, shops and various public buildings.

SHOWTIME CHAIRS

SHOWTIME CHAIRS

His designs include the charming and eye-catching Showtime chair for BD Barcelona. It appeared on the market in 2007, shortly after the Showtime collection was released.

For the designer, this represented a very high accolade, as it was his first designer chair to be commercialised worldwide.

The chair is made of a single material, so that it coherently creates an elegant whole. The only addition is a simple cushion. Focusing on comfort, the structure allows the back to recline properly and thus rest comfortably.

There are no angular ends in the chairs, everything is smooth and fitted. The back legs of the chair are slightly more angled, which adds elegance to the overall design.

The chairs are available in several colour variants so that they can best fit into any interior.

In addition to the furniture, the designer's collection also includes accessories. One of these is a cushion with distinctive illustrations made by Jaime Hayon. These provide it with a unique and artistic look. In addition, it is very soft and comfortable, ensuring a good feeling every day.

Lamps designed by the artist are also very popular. One of these is the ABALLS M GR table lamp. It can be found in the Parachilna collection, in the words of its authors: 'a collection born of the love of luxury', where luxury is understood as a combination of integrity of design, good quality materials and proper craftsmanship.

The lamp itself is as much a reflection of such luxury as possible. It is available in white, black, gold, copper or platinum. The round shade is made of blown frosted glass, so that the light will evenly illuminate the entire interior.

Sensual and elegant at the same time - that is exactly what the Josephine lamp is. It has a ceramic body topped with a shade. It is available in white, black, gold and platinum. The Josephine family comes in table, appliqué and chandelier versions.

Another notable design is the ABALLS CHANDELIER lamp. This time a pendant lamp in lacquered steel in white, black, gold, copper or platinum with ceramic bases in the same colours. The lampshades are also made of blown frosted glass. The lamp is a combination of minimalism and simplicity with a touch of madness.

It is also worth mentioning that it won the Wallpaper Design 2019 award!

Another, obviously equally functional design is the small Elements 002 table. In creating it, the designer was inspired by the original cactus figures and their modular shapes.

As well as being multi-purpose, the sculpture additionally combines the philosophy of tradition and modernity. It is available in 3 classic colours: black, white and grey.

Milan Design Week 2019 saw the appearance of a chair inspired by nature, more specifically the body of an elephant. The streamlined body and the upholstery, available in many colour variations, reflect the physical form of the animal. In the design, it is easy to see the large ears that transform into a rounded bubble. The seat sits on four legs made of metal or solid wood.

The artist undoubtedly blurs the boundaries between art, design and decoration. As well as designing interiors and objects, he has also teamed up with Jasper Morrison and together they have created the fashion brand Jijibaba. The idea is that different designers can add their designs and thus the whole collection will evolve, resulting in a fresh and interesting range.

"We thought that perhaps we could be the first company founded by industrial designers who could create clothes."

Jaime Hayon, thanks to his courage, tenacity of purpose and undoubtedly immense talent - has earned his name as one of today's most recognised designers.

His relentless pursuit of the ideas swirling in his head has taken him to the top of his career. Despite this, the designer never ceases to amaze and releases new designs year after year, adored by millions of customers.

Jaime Hayon is one of those creators who elevate design to the status of art and, above all, create art that appeals to everyone.
